Loyola Academy begins Golden Jubilee year with new leadership and student-focused initiatives

HYDERABAD: Loyola Academy marked the beginning of its Golden Jubilee Academic Year with faculty orientation, administrative changes and a series of academic, wellness and community outreach programmes held throughout June.
New management team assumes charge
The academic year began with a two-day Faculty Orientation Programme that encouraged teachers to reflect on their roles as educators and mentors. Rev. Fr. Dr. Praveen Vijaya Martis, Vice-Chancellor of St. Aloysius Deemed-to-be University, addressed the faculty on education, leadership and the Jesuit mission, urging them to pursue academic excellence with renewed commitment.
The college reopened on June 10, 2026, welcoming students across all three years. During the month, Rev. Fr. Dr. M. L. Thomas SJ assumed office as Superior, Rev. Fr. Dr. A. Rex Angelo SJ as Correspondent and Rev. Fr. M. Anil Kumar SJ as Vice-Principal. The institution welcomed the new management team as it entered its Golden Jubilee year.
Comprehensive orientation programmes were organised for students of all years. First-year students received an introduction to academics, campus regulations, student support services, clubs, National Cadet Corps (NCC), National Service Scheme (NSS), examination procedures and the Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) portal. Separate sessions for second and third-year students focused on academic expectations, leadership opportunities, accreditation, certificate courses, NPTEL programmes, internships, placements and Campus Recruitment Training (CRT).
Reading, wellness and campus awareness initiatives
Loyola Academy observed National Reading Day on June 19 under the theme, “Kithaab Konnect – Aaj ki Padhai, Kal Ki Udaan.” Students organised a book donation drive for children studying at ZPHS Macha Bolarum and ZPHS Kowkur. The programme included reading sessions, grammar and punctuation activities, educational games and interactive sessions to promote reading habits and communication skills.
The institution celebrated International Yoga Day on June 20 with a wellness programme based on the global theme “Yoga for Healthy Ageing.” Ms. Navya Kasa, Founder and Lead Trainer of Nirvana Fitness Hub, conducted yoga, breathing and meditation sessions, while Yoga Trainer Chaitanya Kiran Kasa highlighted the role of conscious breathing in maintaining physical and mental well-being.
On June 24, Loyola Academy organised an awareness programme on drug abuse, illicit trafficking and anti-ragging. Gangadhar Reddy and officials from Alwal Police Station explained the dangers of substance abuse, the legal consequences of drug-related offences and the importance of maintaining a ragging-free campus.
Community outreach and academic programmes continue
Faculty members and students also represented Loyola Academy at Rashtrapati Nilayam, Bolarum, during the observance of the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking. Officials from the EAGLE Force (Elite Action Group for Drug Law Enforcement) of the Telangana Police, led by former Police Commissioner Sandeep Shandilya, conducted awareness sessions. Dr. R. Anitha addressed participants on mental health, prevention and collective responsibility in tackling substance abuse among young people.
The month concluded with the School of Informatics and the Department of B.Sc. Mathematics, Statistics and Computer Science celebrating National Statistics Day on June 30. Prof. G. Jayasree, Professor of Statistics at Osmania University, delivered a lecture on the growing role of statistics in research, data-driven decision-making and addressing real-world challenges.
With academic orientation, administrative transition, student engagement and community outreach programmes, Loyola Academy has laid the foundation for its Golden Jubilee Academic Year while reaffirming its commitment to academic excellence, holistic education and service to society.
