HYDERABAD: A 26-year-old youth from Nizamabad, who suffered severe injuries in a fire accident in London, was declared brain dead on Friday night. His parents consented to donate his organs, giving a new lease of life to four persons.

Sai Sreekar, son of Kamineni Anjaneyaprasad and Renuka of Srinagar Colony in Nizamabad city, had gone to London on February 4, 2024, to pursue an MS degree. He was staying with friends on the second floor of a building at Duppas Hill Terrace in Croydon.

Though he had completed his course a few weeks ago and was preparing to return to India, a fire broke out in the building around midnight on February 24. Gonthi Abhishek, 28, from Kondayyapeta in Kakinada district, died on the spot. Sai Sreekar sustained critical injuries and was admitted to hospital.

Doctors informed his parents over the phone that he had been declared brain dead. Despite their grief, they agreed to donate his organs. Hospital authorities in London said his heart, liver and kidneys were transplanted into patients in need.

The family has appealed to Chief Minister Revanth Reddy and Nizamabad MP Dharmapuri Arvind to help bring the body to India at the earliest.
