Hyderabad consumer court order in Livpure AMC dispute

HYDERABAD: The District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission, Hyderabad, has directed Livpure Private Limited to refund the annual maintenance contract (AMC) amount and pay compensation to a city resident after finding deficiency in service and unfair trade practice in providing assured after-sales support for a water purifier.

In its order, the Commission partly allowed a complaint filed by G.V.L. Prabhakar, a resident of Hasmathpet, who had alleged denial of services despite purchasing an online AMC for his RO water purifier.

Service requests closed without work, says complainant

According to the complaint, Prabhakar purchased a Livpure water purifier in July 2021. After the expiry of the warranty, he bought a two-year online AMC in August 2024 for ₹7,400 through the company’s web application. He alleged that multiple service requests raised under the AMC were closed without any service being rendered.

The complainant told the Commission that when a technician eventually visited in September 2025, he refused to replace all filters, citing that the AMC was not purchased through the local distributor. Despite repeated follow-ups with customer care and e-mails seeking resolution or refund, the company allegedly failed to provide proper service or return the AMC amount.

Commission finds documents unchallenged

The Commission noted that Livpure did not appear before it or file a written version within the statutory 45-day period, leading to forfeiture of its right to contest the complaint. The local distributor, Sri Vaishnavi Enterprises, sent a reply by post denying the allegations but did not file evidence or arguments.

On examining the records, the Commission observed that service job sheets showed no customer signature confirming replacement of parts and accepted the complainant’s contention that service requests were closed without being attended. It held that Livpure failed to provide the assured AMC service despite receiving the full amount.

Refund, compensation and costs ordered

Holding Livpure responsible for deficiency in service and unfair trade practice, the Commission directed the company to refund ₹7,500, pay ₹10,000 as compensation for mental agony and inconvenience, and ₹2,000 towards costs.
