SERILINGAMPALLY: The proposed Rail Over Bridge (ROB) at Lingampally has received fresh approval from the state government, clearing the way for the long-pending project to begin.

The project was originally estimated at ₹127 crore. However, the firm that secured the contract quoted ₹133 crore, around 5 per cent higher than the estimated cost. The Municipal Administration Department has now granted administrative approval for the revised expenditure. Special Chief Secretary of the department issued orders approving the increased project cost.

Revised cost receives government clearance

With the latest approval, there are no major hurdles to the commencement of construction. Local residents and commuters have long faced traffic congestion in the area. Once completed, the ROB is expected to provide relief to lakhs of people who use this route daily.

Delays blamed on planning issues

The project faced delays due to administrative lapses and a lack of clarity over the bridge alignment. Although the government had approved the bridge earlier, officials failed to finalise the exact stretch where it would be constructed. The initial plan was found to be inconsistent with ground conditions, necessitating revisions.

As the revised design increased project costs, fresh government approvals became necessary. With these approvals now in place, residents have urged officials to expedite the remaining procedures and begin construction without further delay.

Coordination needed for speedy execution

The bridge structure above the railway tracks will be constructed under the supervision of the railway authorities. Officials will have to fast-track the required procedures to ensure timely execution.

Authorities must also complete road widening works, compensation payments and other related processes. Town Planning officials from the Serilingampally and Miyapur circles have been asked to work in coordination. Residents have also called on officials to address local concerns and prevent obstacles to the project so that construction can be completed at the earliest.
