Life imprisonment for child rapist in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: A Hyderabad court has sentenced a 24-year-old man to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs. 10,000 for raping a minor girl. Rakesh was convicted by the XIIth Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge, Hon’ble T. Anitha, in Nampally, Hyderabad.
The court also awarded compensation of Rs. 5,00,000 to the victim through the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA).
The victim, a 14-year-old girl studying in the 7th grade, was allegedly lured into Rakesh’s house, who was her friend’s brother, and raped. The incident occurred when the girl was returning home from her Anganwadi centre.
In critical condition, the girl returned home, and her mother lodged a complaint with the Chatrinaka Police Station. The Bharosa Team, a government initiative supporting victims of violence, recorded the girl’s statement (161 CrPC) at the Petlaburgi hospital.
Inspector R. Vidya Sagar Reddy of Chatrinaka PS registered the FIR and conducted a thorough investigation. The investigation resulted in a charge sheet being filed against the accused.
During counseling at the Bharosa Centre in March 2021, it was revealed that the girl had discontinued her education due to the COVID-19 lockdown and the trauma of the incident. The Bharosa team provided counseling to the victim and her family, ensuring her re-enrollment in a different school.
Unfortunately, the victim developed an abdominal infection and passed away after a three-day hospitalisation. Despite this tragedy, the Bharosa team supported the mother and ensured the case continued.
The Public Prosecutor, Prathap Reddy, effectively presented the prosecution evidence, including crucial medical reports and DNA evidence. These, along with the dedicated efforts of the investigating officer, CI R. Vidya Sagar Reddy, Bharosa Legal Support Officer Kalpana, and the Bharosa team, played a vital role in securing a life sentence for the accused.
D Kavitha, DCP, Women Safety, and Prasanna Lakshmi, ACP, Women Safety, Hyderabad, along with T. Jyothsna, Inspector Bharosa, and Mary Augustine, Centre Administrator, closely monitored the case. K. Sreenivasa Reddy, CP Hyderabad, commended the efforts of all involved in achieving justice for the victim.
