LB Nagar public toilets removal

LB Nagar: The Hyderabad Mail’s recent report on the deplorable state of public toilets in LB Nagar’s Chaitanyapuri has prompted action from local authorities. The toilets, managed by the UNIADS agency, were removed on July 27 due to their poor condition.

In response to the tweet and report by the Hyderabad Mail about the issue, Dyee (SWM) Saroornagar, with the username @SaroornagarDyee, posted on ‘X,’ formerly Twitter: “Good morning. The toilet was maintained by the UNIADS agency. Communicated to the UNIADS agency that due to non-maintenance, it was removed on 27th July.”

Sai Teja replied to the response from the Dyee (SWM) Saroornagar and said, “Thank you, but instead of fixing it, they have completely removed it. It would be better if they could have done it better and provided public access.”

It was learned that Sai Teja, a resident and Social Activist, had previously raised concerns about the state of these facilities. Speaking to the Hyderabad Mail, Teja expressed disbelief at the condition of the public toilets, stating, “Will anyone use the public toilets when they are in such a pathetic condition? The poor state of these facilities is leading to open defecation and urination, which, during the monsoon season, is causing the spread of viral fevers.”

Teja highlighted that these public toilets were installed as part of the Swachh Bharat program, aimed at promoting cleanliness in Telangana. He criticized using taxpayer money, questioning, “These toilets were installed using taxpayers’ money. Where is that money going if the facilities are in such poor condition? Why is the government not taking action on these basic amenities?”

Teja also noted that many public toilets across the GHMC limits are similarly neglected. He urged government officials to prioritize proper maintenance before expecting the public to use these facilities. “When public toilets are in such poor condition, who would want to use them? This situation is contributing to open defecation,” he added.

To further address the issue, Teja took to social media, tagging GHMC officials in his post on ‘X’. His message read: “Situation of public toilets in LB Nagar zone. If you maintain them like this, who will use them? These conditions are leading to open defecation. Location near Chaitanyapuri Metro Station.”
