Public toilets in LB Nagar’s Chaitanyapuri in poor condition, residents demand action

LB Nagar Public Toilets Condition

HYDERABAD: Public toilets in LB Nagar’s Chaitanyapuri, under the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) zone, are deplorable, creating a sanitation crisis that has left residents frustrated and calling for urgent action. The lack of well-maintained facilities has led to rampant public urination, worsening the public health situation. Residents are urging authorities to promptly repair the public toilets and enhance sanitation.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Sai Teja, a resident and social activist, explained the dire condition of public toilets in Telangana, particularly in Chaitanyapuri. He expressed disbelief at the state of the facilities, questioning, “Will anyone use the public toilets when they are in such a pathetic condition? The poor condition of these toilets is leading to open defecation and urination, which, during this monsoon season, is causing the spread of viral fevers.”

Sai Teja highlighted that these public toilets were installed as part of the Swachh Bharat program to promote cleanliness in Telangana. He raised concerns about using taxpayer money, stating, “These toilets were installed using taxpayers’ money. Where is that money going if the facilities are in such poor condition? Why is the government not taking action on these basic amenities?”

Teja noted that many public toilets across the GHMC limits are similarly neglected. He urged government officials to prioritize properly maintaining these facilities before expecting the public to use them. “When public toilets are in such poor condition, who would want to use them? This situation is contributing to open defecation,” he added.

To address the issue, Teja took to social media, posting on ‘X’ (formerly Twitter) and tagging GHMC officials. His post read: “Situation of public toilets in LB Nagar zone. If you maintain them like this, who will use them? These conditions are leading to open defecation. Location near Chaitanyapuri Metro Station.”
