LB Nagar metro station to get skywalk to Vasavi township

HYDERABAD: Skywalks already connect metro rail stations directly to malls and offices in Hyderabad. For the first time, a skywalk is being built to connect a metro station directly to a residential township.
The skywalk will connect LB Nagar Metro station with Vasavi Ananda Nilayam, a gated community with 3,576 plots, being developed nearby. Vasavi Group CMD Yerram Vijay Kumar said in a statement on Wednesday that the project had received the required statutory approvals.
He said a no-objection certificate (NOC) had been received from the traffic police. Construction will begin after traffic diversions and barricading are put in place.
The skywalk is being jointly constructed by Vasavi Avenues LLP and SR Infra and Developers. Under an agreement with L&T Hyderabad Metro, the project has to be completed within six months.
₹15-crore skywalk will have 10 main pillars
The ₹15-crore skywalk has been designed by IIT Hyderabad. It will run from the central median to the footpaths along National Highway 65, covering a distance of 14.5 metres from the central median.
The structure will have 10 main pillars. Each pillar will have a diameter of 5.94 metres and a height of 8.64 metres, with the pillars placed 12-14 metres apart.
The design has been planned to ensure that any future widening of the service road is not obstructed.
Ramp, lift and staircase planned for commuters
The distance between the main skywalk pillar and the internal boundary pillar, which will have a staircase for descent, will be about 12.5 metres.
The skywalk will have a ramp, lift facility and staircase to provide access between the metro station and the residential township.
