LB Nagar gets medical college, says Damodar Rajanarasimha

HYDERABAD: LB Nagar constituency has received a boost with the state government deciding to bring the medical college, currently attached to the Vanastalipuram area hospital, under its limits. Health minister Damodar Rajanarasimha made the announcement.
He said the government would examine setting up another college for Maheshwaram constituency.
TIMS, college to be operational next year
The medical college in LB Nagar, along with the Telangana Institute of Medical Sciences (TIMS) being built in Chaitanyapuri, is expected to be available from next year.
The Maheshwaram medical college has been functioning for two years with 100 students. It has 130 clinical staff and 50 professors on duty.
Hospital upgrade and infrastructure plans underway
Authorities are searching for rented buildings in Vanastalipuram, Hastinapuram and Mansoorabad areas to shift operations.
The Vanastalipuram area hospital will be upgraded into a broad super speciality hospital. It currently has 100 beds, handles around 1,200 outpatients daily and has more than 100 inpatients.
At present, 70 doctors are working at the hospital, with 10 available round the clock. It has in-house blood and urine testing facilities. Deliveries are conducted 24 hours a day. A CT scan facility will be added soon.
Officials seek buildings; MLA calls for permanent campus
Medical college superintendent Nagender said, “We are looking for a building to shift the college from Mangalpally to the Vanastalipuram area. We will move to TIMS by September. Buildings are being explored in Vanastalipuram and Hastinapuram.”
MLA Sudheer Reddy said converting Maheshwaram medical college into LB Nagar medical college is welcome. He added that a police station, park and electricity office should be built near the TIMS hospital campus. Land has already been identified for constructing the college.
