Telangana: Lakshmi Deepika Kommareddy, who secured the first rank in the Telangana Group 1 examination, has also emerged as the topper in the Andhra Pradesh Group 1 results under the non-local quota.

Top ranks in two states

Deepika wrote the Andhra Pradesh Group 1 examination as a non-local candidate. Though born and raised in Hyderabad, her parents hail from Andhra Pradesh. Her father is from Amalapuram in Ambedkar Konaseema district, while her mother Padmavathi is from West Godavari district.

She has already been selected as Deputy Collector through the Telangana Group 1 examination and is currently undergoing training. As she has now secured the same post in Andhra Pradesh as well, she said she has not yet decided which state cadre she will choose.

From medicine to civil services

Deepika studied up to Class 10 at DAV School in Sainikpuri, Hyderabad, and completed Intermediate education at Sri Chaitanya College in Narayanguda. In 2013, she secured an all-India rank of 119 in the medical entrance examination and completed MBBS from Osmania Medical College.

After finishing her medical degree, she began preparing for the civil services. Although she was selected for the Mandal Parishad Development Officer post in the 2023 Andhra Pradesh Group 1 results, she chose not to join, opting instead to focus on the Union Public Service Commission examinations. She reached the interview stage twice and still has two attempts remaining.

Preparation strategy

With around 80 per cent overlap between the UPSC and state Group 1 syllabi, Deepika said she did not undertake separate preparation for the Andhra Pradesh and Telangana examinations. She focused entirely on General Studies, as Group 1 has no optional subject, and studied for about six hours a day during the exam phase.

“After analysing the Group 1 exam pattern, I prepared without formal coaching. My aim is public service, and that is why I am pursuing the civil services,” she said.
