Hyderabad eatery sealed after raid uncovers reused oil, 1,000 kg onions seized

HYDERABAD: Food safety officials seized around 1,000 kg of raw onions, 70 kg of fried onions, and 480 kg of suspected reused cooking oil during a raid at a biryani outlet in Kukatpally, following a tip-off from the Special Operations Team (SOT) police.
Inspectors reported highly unhygienic conditions at the establishment, identified as Naseeb Biryani. The kitchen was allegedly procuring and reusing used cooking oil to prepare fried onions in bulk, raising serious health concerns.
Oil samples sent for lab analysis to confirm adulteration
Authorities collected samples of the seized oil and sent them for chemical analysis to determine the extent of contamination or adulteration.
Officials said the reuse of cooking oil beyond permissible limits can lead to toxic compounds, posing risks to public health. The seized food items were destroyed on-site to prevent their distribution.
Establishment sealed; legal action under examination
The food outlet has been sealed, and a detailed investigation is underway. Authorities are examining possible violations under food safety laws and will initiate legal action based on laboratory findings.
The raid was carried out as part of intensified enforcement to curb unsafe food practices in the city.
