KTR addressing sarpanches’ meeting in Mahbubnagar on Telangana districts issue

TELANGANA: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K. T. Rama Rao on Saturday warned that the Congress government would face statewide protests if it went ahead with plans to scrap districts in Telangana.

Addressing a sarpanches’ interaction programme in Mahbubnagar town, KTR strongly criticised statements by the revenue minister on abolishing districts, calling the move anti-people. He said no one would remain silent if even one district was removed.

‘Congress wants to reverse decentralised governance’

KTR said the earlier government under K. Chandrashekar Rao had decentralised administration to take governance closer to people by creating smaller districts, new mandals and revenue divisions, and upgrading tandas into gram panchayats.

He alleged that the Congress government was uncomfortable with district collectors and superintendents of police being accessible to the public and wanted to roll back administrative reforms. “If any district is abolished, we will fight with the people and ensure the Congress pays the price,” he said.

Attack on Revanth Reddy over Palamuru project

KTR accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of deliberately stalling the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation Project to deny water to farmers in the Palamuru region.

He said nearly 90% of the project had been completed at a cost of ₹30,000 crore, but the remaining 10% was being stalled intentionally. KTR claimed the project had helped irrigate lakhs of acres and brought back migrants to Mahbubnagar during the previous regime.

He questioned how a government that could not even supply urea bags to farmers could claim it would make Mahbubnagar prosperous.

‘No benefits to any section in two years’

KTR alleged that in two years of Congress rule, no section of society had benefited. He said the party had come to power on “unrealistic promises” and failed to implement its six guarantees.

He criticised unfulfilled assurances on Rythu Bandhu, pensions and Kalyana Lakshmi, and accused the chief minister of making fresh promises without honouring existing ones.

Industry, IT projects neglected

KTR asked the chief minister to explain why industries brought to Mahbubnagar by the previous government had moved out and why the IT tower launched earlier had been neglected. He said investments worth ₹9,500 crore, including the Amara Raja project, had been secured for the region earlier.

Call to strengthen BRS in local polls

Referring to recent panchayat elections, KTR said people had stood by the BRS and urged party cadres to carry the same momentum into the upcoming municipal elections.

Several senior BRS leaders, former ministers, MLAs and party functionaries attended the programme at the MBC Ground in Mahbubnagar.
