KTR visits Balka Suman in jail, alleges selective action by Telangana govt

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K T Rama Rao on Thursday visited former MLA Balka Suman at Chanchalguda jail and accused the Telangana government of targeting Opposition leaders while ignoring alleged threats made by Congress leaders.
Speaking to reporters after the meeting, Rama Rao said he would write to Union Coal Minister G Kishan Reddy regarding an alleged coal scam in the state.
He questioned why no action had been taken against Congress leaders Mynampally Hanumanth Rao and Anirudh Reddy, whom he accused of threatening BRS leaders.
“Mynampally Hanumanth Rao and Anirudh Reddy threatened to kill our leader by pouring petrol. No action was taken against them, but Balka Suman was sent to jail,” Rama Rao said.
Arrest over alleged remarks at party meeting
Suman was arrested on May 30 in connection with alleged remarks made during a BRS meeting at Telangana Bhavan. Police alleged that he called upon party workers to sabotage railway networks, set Singareni Bhavan on fire and conspire against the government.
A court remanded him to 14-day judicial custody on May 31.
Case shifted from Nampally to Banjara Hills
The sedition-related case against Suman was transferred from Nampally police station to Banjara Hills police station on June 3.
The first information report (FIR), registered on May 26, invokes provisions related to mischief by fire or explosives, criminal intimidation, statements conducive to public mischief, abetment and criminal conspiracy. Police also invoked Section 4 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property Act.
