Hyderabad: K. Taraka Rama Rao (KTR), working president of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on September 21, 2024, has alleged a significant corruption scandal involving Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, claiming a mismanagement of Rs. 8,888 crores under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme.

During a press conference on Saturday, KTR accused Revanth Reddy of using his official position to benefit his family and close associates.

KTR asserted that within just three months of assuming office, Revanth Reddy allegedly engaged in substantial fraud by abusing his authority within the Urban Development Department. He claimed the scheme involved the unauthorised allocation of major contracts to companies lacking the necessary qualifications, many of which have connections to Revanth Reddy’s family.

KTR’s allegations primarily targeted Shodha Infrastructure Limited, which is owned by Soodhini Srujan Reddy, Revanth Reddy’s brother-in-law. KTR accused the Chief Minister of awarding contracts worth Rs. 1,137 crores to this company despite its reported profit of only Rs. 2 crores. “The only apparent qualification of this company seems to be its family connection to the Chief Minister,” KTR stated.

KTR also alleged that the public-listed Indian Hume Pipe Ltd. was pressured into a joint venture with Shodha Infrastructure, where Indian Hume Pipe was assigned only 20% of the project work, while Shodha Infrastructure received 80%. This arrangement has raised further suspicions of foul play.

“The entire tendering process has been filled with irregularities,” KTR said. He added that Revanth Reddy personally pressured municipal officials to facilitate the awarding of these contracts. He warned that the Chief Minister could face serious legal repercussions under the Office of Profit Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act.

KTR drew parallels with previous political resignations, mentioning Sonia Gandhi, who stepped down over similar allegations, and B.S. Yeddyurappa, who was removed from office for illegally granting mining permits to his family. He further warned that if Revanth Reddy continues to misuse his position for personal gain, he, too, will face the same fate.

KTR criticised Revanth Reddy for withholding crucial information about the AMRUT 2.0 tenders, obstructing public oversight and transparency. He demanded that all details related to the scheme be made public for scrutiny.

“The people of Telangana deserve to know how the corrupt Congress government is siphoning off public funds,” KTR stated. “We will continue to expose scams linked to Revanth Reddy and push for a full investigation.”

In his remarks, KTR also condemned the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) for its silence on the matter, suggesting their complicity in the alleged corruption. He called on the central government to investigate the AMRUT 2.0 tenders and revoke any contracts that were awarded illegally.

In a letter to Union Ministers Manohar Lal Khattar and Tokhan Sahu, KTR reiterated his demand for a thorough investigation into the tendering process. “I appeal to the Union Government to investigate and disclose the details of the companies awarded tenders under the AMRUT scheme. If irregularities are found, these tenders should be immediately revoked,” he said.

KTR urged the Congress-led Telangana government to release all relevant documents regarding the AMRUT tenders and encouraged the public to remain vigilant against corruption.
