KTR attacks police action at Telangana Assembly

HYDERABAD: BRS working president K T Rama Rao on Monday accused the police of acting in a “heinous” manner against party legislators during their protest and said people had witnessed their conduct.

Rama Rao said police had behaved particularly badly with former minister and BRS MLA Sabita Indra Reddy and MLA Sunitha Laxma Reddy. He said Sabita Indra Reddy broke down after the police action.

KTR questions curbs on black T-shirts

Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan after the Telangana Assembly was adjourned, Rama Rao questioned the restrictions imposed on BRS legislators wearing T-shirts during their protest.

“This is not a legislative assembly, it is a Dushasana Sabha. Rahul Gandhi goes to the Lok Sabha wearing a T-shirt. What is wrong if we wear T-shirts? Under which rule are we being stopped?”

He also questioned the authority of a deputy commissioner of police to decide what was parliamentary or unparliamentary.

“Who is the DCP to decide what is parliamentary and unparliamentary? The police behaved heinously towards women leaders. They treated Sabita Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy in an inhuman manner. It is our right to raise the voice of the people,” he said.

Rama Rao accused the Speaker of discrimination and questioned his reported remark that he would not allow a microphone if the chief minister was criticised.

“We will question the government in the House over atrocities, exploitation and anarchy against the people,” he said.

KTR seeks Revanth Reddy’s apology over incident

Rama Rao held Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy responsible for the incident and demanded an apology.

“Chief Minister Revanth is responsible for what happened today. Chief Minister Revanth should take responsibility and apologise. He should apologise to Sabita Indra Reddy and Sunitha Laxma Reddy. The women of Telangana were insulted today,” he said.

Rama Rao said the BRS had approached the Telangana High Court over the incident and would also approach the National Human Rights Commission and the Women’s Commission.

He alleged that the BJP and Congress were running a “joint venture government” and accused the two parties of colluding to prevent the BRS from protesting.

“This government is being run as a joint venture by the BJP and Congress. The BJP and Congress have colluded to stop us,” he said.
