HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president K. T. Rama Rao on Saturday demanded the immediate dismissal of Union minister Bandi Sanjay Kumar from the Union Cabinet to ensure a fair investigation into the POCSO case involving the minister’s son.

Addressing a party event at LB Nagar in Hyderabad, KTR said the Prime Minister’s “Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao” slogan would lose credibility if justice was not delivered in cases involving influential people.

KTR said it was perhaps the first time in the country that a lookout notice had been issued against the son of a sitting Union minister. He questioned how the accused allegedly remained hidden for nine days and asked who had protected him during that period.

He alleged that an impartial investigation would not be possible while Bandi Sanjay continued in office. KTR said allowing individuals accused of misusing power and influence in sensitive cases to continue in constitutional positions was “an insult to Telangana and the country”.

KTR accuses BJP, Congress of suppressing issue

The BRS leader alleged that the victim’s parents were subjected to threats and pressure. He accused Bandi Sanjay of personally intimidating the family.

KTR also accused Telangana chief minister A. Revanth Reddy of attempting to dilute the seriousness of the case. He alleged that both the BJP and Congress were trying to suppress the issue by branding it a “honey trap” and influencing sections of the media to avoid reporting on it.

He said failure to act against powerful individuals would discourage women and minor girls from reporting cases of abuse and harassment. KTR reiterated his demand for the Union minister’s dismissal and called for a transparent and independent investigation.

BRS women leaders praised for protests

KTR praised the victim’s parents for standing firm despite alleged threats and pressure. He described their fight for justice as “historic and courageous”.

He also appreciated the efforts of BRS women leaders, student organisations and social media activists for pursuing the issue. KTR said party leaders staged protests across Telangana, approached the Women’s Commission and the Director General of Police, and demonstrated at the Dr B.R. Ambedkar statue demanding justice for the victim.

He further appreciated senior BRS leader R. S. Praveen Kumar for supporting the victim’s family.

KTR said sustained protests and public pressure eventually forced the accused to surrender and led to the initiation of arrest proceedings, giving “some hope of justice” to the victim.
