BRS leader KTR criticizes Rahul Gandhi over defections into Congress

KTR criticizes Rahul Gandhi

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) MLA KTR launched a scathing attack on Congress leader Rahul Gandhi, accusing him of hypocrisy regarding the protection of the Constitution and the facilitation of defections. Speaking in Delhi, KTR criticized Rahul Gandhi for allegedly supporting defections into Congress while performing “Oscar level acting” in Parliament to protect the Constitution.

KTR declared that the BRS would meet with the President, Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha speakers, and the Supreme Court to address the issue of defections. He emphasized that the party would raise the matter in every possible forum in Delhi. KTR, along with Harish Rao, has been consulting legal experts on remedies for defections, insisting that Congress should make defectors resign.

The BRS leader questioned the financial transactions behind the defections, asking how much money had been given to the MLAs who switched sides. He drew a distinction between mergers and defections, explaining that BRS performed a constitutional merger with 2/3 MLAs joining, while Congress encouraged defections, which goes against the principles it espoused in its Nyay Patra.

BRS to seek legal remedies

KTR pointed out that Congress was responsible for introducing the anti-defection law and is now promoting defections. He accused Congress of failing to fulfill its promises after coming to power in the state, such as providing two lakh government jobs and loan waivers by December 9. Instead, he claimed Congress had forgotten its guarantees and focused on acquiring six MLAs and six MLCs.

Highlighting the inconsistency in Congress’s stance, KTR mentioned Rahul Gandhi’s accusations against BJP for buying Congress MLAs in Goa and Karnataka, while Congress itself is inducting BRS legislators in Telangana. He noted that the Supreme Court disqualified an MLA in Manipur for defecting, reinforcing the need for stringent laws against party-switching.

KTR criticized Rahul Gandhi for not following the Constitution despite showcasing it in Parliament. He reminded the audience of Revanth Reddy’s past statement, where he suggested stoning defectors. KTR demanded clarity on the money spent by Congress to buy MLAs in Telangana and warned of exposing Congress’s misdeeds in Delhi.

He stressed that if the Speaker fails to take action against defectors, BRS would approach the Supreme Court. Additionally, the party plans to file a complaint with the President regarding defections.

KTR reaffirmed BRS’s commitment to fighting the unconstitutional actions of Congress and holding them accountable for promoting defections.
