KTR says Congress misled BCs on reservation pledge

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi working president K T Rama Rao on Monday said the party would expose what he described as the Congress party’s betrayal of Backward Classes over the promise of enhanced reservations.
BRS to take campaign to village level
Speaking to BC public representatives, former MLAs, MLCs and senior leaders at Telangana Bhavan, he said the party would confront the Congress “everywhere” for going back on the commitments made in the BC Declaration. He said Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was misleading the country by stating that Telangana had already implemented 42% reservation for BCs, though no such increase had been introduced in the State.
He said if Rahul Gandhi was sincere, he should use his position as Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha to ensure an immediate discussion on the issue. He asked why Rahul Gandhi had not raised the matter in Parliament and whether the BJP was not cooperating. If the Congress was committed, Gandhi could even introduce a Private Member’s Bill, he said. He also urged BJP and Congress MPs from Telangana to raise the issue in the upcoming parliamentary session.
KTR criticises BJP over BC issues
Rama Rao accused the BJP of speaking about BCs frequently but failing them on reservation, fund allocation and the creation of an OBC Welfare Ministry. He said people were watching the party’s “deception”.
He alleged that the Congress government was diverting attention by discussing only local body reservations and ignoring the promised 42% quota in education, employment and government contracts. He criticised the State government for not mentioning the pledge to allocate ₹20,000 crore a year for BCs in the budget.
He said the BRS would press for allocation of these funds in the upcoming budget and asked party workers to take the message of “Congress deception” to the village level.
BCs stand with KCR, says Harish Rao
Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao said BCs continued to stand with former chief minister K Chandrashekhar Rao. He said welfare and development programmes for BC communities since the formation of Telangana had been unprecedented. Support for caste-based occupations and the expansion of residential education institutions had earned the confidence of BCs, he said.
During the meeting, BRS MLC Dasoju Sravan gave a presentation on what he called the “fraud” committed by the Congress in the name of 42% reservation. Former minister Talasani Srinivas Yadav, who presided over the meeting, said an action plan would soon be submitted to the party.
Senior leaders Banda Prakash, S Madhusudhana Chary, V Srinivas Goud, Gangula Kamalakar, Jogu Ramanna, Karne Prabhakar and others also spoke.
