HYDERABAD: A large number of grassroots leaders from the Sircilla constituency joined the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) on Sunday. The leaders included sarpanches, deputy sarpanches and ward members from several villages. They joined the party at Telangana Bhavan in Sircilla in the presence of K. T. Rama Rao (KTR), the BRS working president.

KTR welcomed the leaders and their supporters. He draped pink shawls over their shoulders as a mark of induction into the party.

Party to press for legal guarantee of Congress promises

Speaking at a programme to felicitate newly elected councillors of the Sircilla municipality, KTR said BRS would introduce a Private Member Bill in the upcoming Telangana Assembly budget session starting on March 16.

He said the Bill would seek legal backing for the six guarantees promised by the Indian National Congress before the 2023 Assembly elections.

“The purpose of the Bill is to ensure the government legally implements the six guarantees and fulfils its promises to the people of Telangana,” he said.

KTR added that Congress legislators would have to support the proposal. He said the Bill only seeks the implementation of promises made by their own party.

Cites assurances by national Congress leadership

KTR recalled that Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Mallikarjun Kharge had assured that the six guarantees would receive legal backing within 100 days of the Congress forming the government in the state.

He said BRS would use legislative pressure to ensure the government honours its commitments and delivers the promised guarantees.

Allegations on farm aid delays

KTR also accused the Congress government of making extravagant promises during the elections but failing to implement them after coming to power.

He alleged that the government had delayed the Rythu Bharosa scheme, earlier known as Rythu Bandhu scheme.

“The government has delayed Rythu Bharosa payments several times. It has once again postponed the assistance during the current crop season,” he said.

Taking a swipe at the state leadership, KTR targeted Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy. He alleged that the government had introduced a new programme called “Rahul Bandhu,” claiming that funds meant for farmers were being diverted for political purposes.

KTR claimed that nearly ₹1,000 crore each year was diverted for political appeasement instead of supporting farmers.
