Kondapur cross road turns ‘Death Trap’ as deep potholes endanger commuters
HYDERABAD: Residents are alarmed about dangerous road conditions at the Kondapur signal. Social activist Sai Teja says deep potholes and an open catchment pit across from the Volkswagen Kondapur showroom have made an important part of Hyderabad’s IT corridor very unsafe for commuters. He describes it as a “death trap.”
Sai Teja posted about the problem on X (formerly Twitter). He tagged the Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC), corporator Gummalla Srijana, and the Municipal Commissioner of Cyberabad, asking them to fix it right away.
The damaged road is at the Kondapur signal, a well-known spot where routes split toward Gachibowli and other areas of the IT corridor. Furthermore, Teja said a hospital is just 150 metres from the signal, which makes the problem more urgent. In addition, the area is also an important stop for public buses.
Teja said he first saw how bad the potholes were while passing through for personal work. Meanwhile, he added that other residents and commuters had already reported the problem on social media a few days earlier. “The potholes are very deep. They are causing big traffic problems. Even normal movement is very difficult,” he said.
Teja estimates that about 350,000 people use this road every day, including many who go to Gachibowli for work. Most of them are IT employees, but cabs, autos, two-wheelers, public buses, trucks, and construction vehicles also use the road. Additionally, it is a key link for those going to the Outer Ring Road and Rajiv Gandhi International Airport. For this reason, it is one of the busiest roads in the western IT corridor.
Teja admits that the rainy season can make road repairs difficult. However, he criticized officials for not fixing the problem. “We don’t know why the officials are being so negligent. Of course, it’s monsoon season and repairs might be difficult, but it can’t just be left like that,” he said.
He also pointed out that the open catchment pit near the Volkswagen showroom is especially dangerous. Specifically, it is right at a busy signal where vehicles have to turn and merge with other traffic.
Teja is asking CMC and Cyberabad civic officials to make repairs at this spot a top priority because so many people use it every day. “Since so many people are facing inconvenience, if the government responds quickly and takes action, it would be very helpful for commuters at large,” he said.
