Kondapur residents demand basic amenities amidst infrastructure woes

Kondapur infrastructure issues

Hyderabad: Residents of Kondapur KMR Estates, located in the Serilingampally zone, are facing severe difficulties due to the lack of basic amenities such as proper roads, streetlights, and drainage systems. A recent increase in dog attacks in the area has exacerbated the situation.

Speaking with the Hyderabad Mail, Ajith, a resident of Kondapur, expressed frustration. “Numerous apartments and IT professionals are living here. We are paying property, professional, and income taxes. Many of us have taken home loans and are paying EMIs. However, we are struggling with inadequate infrastructure. The roads are poorly maintained, there are no streetlights, and drainage is non-existent, making driving extremely challenging in our area,” he said.

He highlighted that the entrance road to KMR Estates and JVG Hills Apartments is severely damaged. “The road gets flooded with water during rains, creating dangerous potholes and worsening the issue,” he added.

Residents have seen no action despite multiple complaints and appeals to authorities, zonal commissioners, GHMC officials, and local politicians.

He explained that there are ongoing drainage issues. “To initiate drainage work, the government must handle litigation, which delays the process. Officials have told us that roads will be laid only after drainage work is completed, as the two are interlinked,” he said.

Ajith also criticised the local government for the inadequate response to their grievances. “We, as residents, often pool our resources to fill potholes with sand or mud. The roads are uneven, leading to accidents and vehicle damage. When we questioned how the land was sold to us without proper infrastructure, officials responded by asking why we bought here,” he recounted.

He further alleged that local politicians show partiality, claiming that as many residents are from other states, they are not given due attention. “Politicians are neglecting us because our votes are not crucial to them. Our neighboring locality recently got roads, but our area remains neglected,” Ajith said.

Additionally, Ajith reported a rise in dog attacks and criticised the GHMC’s response. “The toll-free number provided for dog infestation issues is not operational, and there is no response from the authorities,” he stated.

The residents of Kondapur KMR Estates are urgently requesting the GHMC to address their concerns by providing essential amenities such as proper roads, streetlights, and drainage systems to improve their quality of life.
