Kokapet & Neopolis construction sites contribute to rising dust pollution in Hyderabad

Hyderabad: Residents of Kokapet and Neopolis, an upcoming ultra-luxury apartment hub in Hyderabad, are voicing concerns over severe dust pollution caused by poor construction practices. The issue was highlighted by Hyderabad Real Estate & Infra (@HydREGuide), who pointed out that basic measures to control dust were missing at the construction sites.
In a post, @HydREGuide described the situation on ‘X,’ previously known as Twitter, “Kokapet Dust Crisis: From Ultra-Luxury to Ultra-Pollution. Kokapet & Neopolis, an upcoming ultra-luxury apartment hub, is now battling severe dust pollution due to reckless construction practices. Basic precautions to control dust are completely missing.”
The real estate expert explained the cause of the pollution, “Unchecked excavation and construction without dust suppression, lack of water misting or proper barricading at sites, and municipal authorities and the Pollution Control Board turning a blind eye.”
Residents are concerned about the health risks posed by the pollution, particularly the dangerously high PM2.5 levels. Fine dust particles are entering their lungs, causing respiratory diseases. Elderly people and children are experiencing breathing problems and allergies, while homes are constantly covered in dust, requiring frequent cleaning.
The real estate expert called for urgent action, stating, “Construction firms must be held accountable for failing to follow pollution control norms. Misting and dust control measures must be mandatory at all sites, with strict fines for non-compliance. Real-time PM2.5 air quality monitoring and public updates are also needed. Municipal authorities and the Pollution Control Board must act now.”
He added, “Dust is everywhere – this is a serious health hazard!” He tagged several officials, including @mcnarsingi, @TelanganaPCB, @DamodarCilarapu, @revanth_anumula, @PrlsecyMAUD, and @CollectorRRD, to raise awareness.
The expert also criticized the Telangana Pollution Control Board, noting that its Twitter account has been inactive for over a year.
Another citizen, Siva Krishna, supported the views shared, stating, “This is a life-and-death issue. Builders, whether My Home or Rajapushpa, must take basic precautions. When the government is negligent, this is the result.”
Manognya Reddy added, “Development is often seen only in real estate, but who is looking after air, water, and trees? If we had a better transport system, the city could spread out, reducing the burden on one area. Citizens will suffer in the long run.”
