Telangana Launches India's First 'solar Model' Mandal In Kodangal

HYDERABAD: The Telangana Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TGREDCO) has launched an ambitious programme to transform Kodangal mandal into the country’s first “Solar Model” mandal. The initiative aims to provide complete solar coverage across the entire mandal.

Unlike existing model solar villages, the programme seeks to connect every eligible household in Kodangal to the solar energy network. As a result, officials say it will become the first initiative of its kind in India.

Vikarabad District Collector Musharraf Farooqui chaired a review meeting to assess the project’s progress. During the meeting, TGREDCO Vice-Chairman and Managing Director urged elected representatives, officials, vendors and residents to work together and complete the programme within the stipulated deadline.

Nearly 2,000 rooftop solar systems completed

Officials said they approved rooftop solar installations for 5,186 electricity service connections under the Gruha Jyothi scheme in Kodangal mandal. After technical verification, they found 2,418 connections suitable for rooftop solar systems.

So far, teams have completed around 2,000 rooftop solar installations. They now plan to finish the remaining installations within the next month.

Officials seek stronger village-level participation

Meanwhile, Farooqui stressed the importance of active participation from village-level public representatives. He asked them to spread awareness, encourage eligible residents to install rooftop solar systems and resolve local issues quickly.

However, several sarpanches and public representatives said they had not received beneficiary lists for their villages. In response, Farooqui directed TGREDCO officials and vendors to share the lists with every sarpanch through local authorities. He also asked them to provide regular progress updates.

In addition, Farooqui instructed Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TGSPDCL) officials to speed up net-meter installations and grid synchronisation. This will help beneficiaries start using solar power and receive its benefits without delay.
