Khammam DCA officials raid unlicensed medical shop and seize medicines

TELANGANA: Drugs Control Administration, Telangana officials raided a medical shop at H. No. 10-5-108/1, near Mondi Gate, Mamillagudem, on November 29, 2025, after receiving credible information on illegal medicine sales.

Shop found operating without drug licence

Officials said P V Narendra Kumar was running the outlet without a valid drug licence. During the raid, officers found 101 varieties of medicines including antihypertensive, antidiabetic, antibiotic and analgesic drugs stocked for sale. The entire stock, valued at ₹30,000, was seized.

Raid conducted under senior supervision

The raid was carried out by Drugs Inspector Khammam Urban Ch Anil Kumar and Drugs Inspector Kothagudem G Aswani, under the supervision of Assistant Director Khammam M Aravind Kumar.
DCA officers collected samples for analysis. Officials said further investigation would continue and action would be taken under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act against all offenders.

Wholesalers warned of penalties

The administration cautioned that wholesalers and dealers supplying medicines to unlicensed shops are also punishable under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act. Officials said wholesalers must ensure that recipient establishments hold valid drug licences before supplying medicines.

Public advisory issued

DCA advised the public to avoid purchasing medicines from unlicensed outlets or unregulated online platforms, citing increased risks to public health. Licensed shops, officials said, usually display their drug licences prominently.

The administration added that medicines sold without a licence are likely to be counterfeit.

Licence verification steps for public

The public can verify whether a pharmacy holds a valid licence through the “Third-Party Verification” feature on the Online Drug Licensing System (ODLS) website.

Step 1: Visit https://odls.telangana.gov.in/ThirdPartypublicview.aspx
Step 2: Select “Sales” under Licence Type.
Step 3: Enter the name of the medical shop or distributor and click “Search” to view licence details.

The public may report illegal medicine-related activities, including suspected drug manufacturing, narcotic drug or psychotropic substance activity, in residential, commercial or industrial areas, through the DCA’s toll-free helpline 1800-599-6969, operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on all working days.
