Cyclone Montha rains flood colonies along Munneru in Khammam

HYDERABAD: Heavy rains triggered by Cyclone Montha have flooded several colonies along the Munneru stream in Khammam. Water entered houses in Mothinagar and Bokkalagadda colonies, forcing authorities to evacuate residents.
Officials said 35 families from Mothinagar and 57 from Bokkalagadda were shifted to rehabilitation centres as floodwaters surrounded the localities.
Khammam–Bonakal route closed due to high water
Flood flow in the Munneru continues to rise, with the water level reaching 24.7 feet. Upstream rainfall has intensified the inflow. As the river swelled, water submerged the Khammam–Bonakal main road near Damsalapuram, where about three feet of water flowed over the R&B road.
Police have suspended vehicular movement on the route and set up barricades to prevent access. Floodwater is also flowing over the low-level bridge near Ramakrishnapuram in Chinthakani mandal. Officials reported heavy inflows into the Paleru reservoir.
Roads damaged, colonies submerged
At Raparthi Nagar BC Colony, the road leading to the municipal dumping yard was washed away. Residents of TNGOs Colony expressed concern as their houses remained surrounded by floodwater.
In Edulapuram limits, areas around KBR Nagar and Priyadarshini College were also inundated.
