Bollaram police arrest youth in Khajipalli murder case

HYDERABAD: A youth was killed following a drunken brawl triggered by an old grudge, and the accused was arrested within two days by IDA Bollaram police.
According to Ravinder Reddy, inspector, the victim, Deepan Thapa (26), a native of Nepal, was found dead with severe bleeding on September 4 in a deserted area near GMR Colony, in Khajipalli.
Acting on information from locals, police inspected the spot and began an inquiry. With technical evidence, teams led by Satyanarayana, deputy superintendent of police, Aminpur, and Raju, deputy superintendent of police, Patancheru, identified Varakanti Dileep (26) of Gollagudem as the accused and took him into custody on Friday afternoon.
Old friendship turned fatal
During interrogation, Dileep confessed to the crime. Police said Dileep and Thapa were friends earlier and had developed hostility following a quarrel while drinking alcohol.
Planned attack in deserted area
On the night of September 3, Dileep lured Thapa on the pretext of drinking and took him on his scooter to an isolated spot. After both consumed alcohol and Thapa became intoxicated, Dileep allegedly struck him on the head with a stone, killing him. To avoid suspicion, he threw away the victim’s mobile phone on the way and fled.
Police said the accused has been arrested and will be produced before a court for remand.
