News in short:
Hyderabad's Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is tackling the issue of haphazard parking by implementing a smart parking infrastructure project inspired by Singapore's model. This initiative, to be undertaken through a Public-Private Partnership (PPP), will be rolled out in five zones: Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Goshamahal, and Karwan. The project aims to address parking congestion, improve facilities, and offer a seamless user experience using advanced technology. The smart parking project will encompass indoor, on-street, and off-street parking options, creating a unified digital ecosystem for all types of parking facilities. The Khairatabad facility will feature digital screens displaying slot availability and ads, surveillance cameras, vending kiosks, EV charging points, WiFi, and LPWAN technology for vehicle identification. The system will also include weather-resistant parking sensors for real-time occupancy updates, a centralized system for tracking parking duration, and a mobile app/web portal for slot access and cashless payments. The goal is to improve urban mobility by reducing on-street parking congestion and creating a more efficient and user-friendly parking experience in Hyderabad.
Khairatabad zone to get a Singapore style parking upgrade

Hyderabad: As haphazard parking of vehicles along roads and in public places are turning into a nightmare for commuters and pedestrians, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has come up with a plan to develop smart parking infrastructure with digital integration across the Khairatabad zone.

The initiative, based on Singapore’s smart parking model, will be taken up through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) on Build Own Operate Share Transfer (BOOST) basis. The authorities said the project will address the issues of irregular parking which disrupt vehicular movement on the roads. They added it also aims to improve parking facilities, address congestion while using the latest technology to create a seamless, user-friendly experience.

To take off the project, the civic body has invited bids to develop similar facilities in Khairatabad, Jubilee Hills, Mehdipatnam, Goshamahal and Karwan circles. The GHMC will assess the tenders and then will give the project to a private agency and the agency will be responsible for design, installation and maintenance of the facilities over a minimum of five years.

With an objective to increase urban mobility by reducing on-street parking congestion, the smart parking project will provide indoor parking lots, on-street parking and off street parking lots. The unified digital ecosystem will integrate public, private and commercial parking facilities.

The Khairatabad parking facility will be equipped with digital screens at the entrances which will display live slot availability and advertisements, high-resolution surveillance cameras, vending kiosks, EV charging points, WiFi connectivity and Low-Power Wide-Area Networks (LPWAN). These cameras will automatically detect and recognise number plates of the vehicles.

The other features include weather-resistant parking sensors to check the occupancy for two-wheelers and four-wheelers, sending real time updates to a centralized system. The integrated parking system will not only track the parking duration but will also enable visitors to access parking slots and make cashless payments via a dedicated mobile application and web portal.
