Khairatabad metro station rush

Khairatabad: Immersion of Ganesh idols is underway at the Tank Bund of picturesque Hussain Sagar lake on Tuesday. As Khairatabad is the closest metro station, a huge crowd of devotees was seen thronging the station to catch the train back home.

The station was filled with devotees who were returning to their homes after completing the rituals at the lake. As the number of commuters exceeded the capacity of the holding area including the concourse level and platforms of the metro station, the authorities were seen closing the gates for extra people. This preventive measure angered many commuters.

As the metro trains were running to full capacity, the authorities were forced to stop the commuters from overcrowding the station. The crowd of people was seen stranded on the stairs. However, they were later allowed in batches to catch the train back home.

Due to heavy rush both inside the train and at the station, commuters were seen jostling to enter and exit the train. Meanwhile, the roads leading to Hussain Sagar are filled with devotees. This year an estimated one lakh idols are set for immersion in the lake and other water bodies in and around Hyderabad city.
