Keesara SI caught accepting ₹5 lakh bribe, ACB books SHO

HYDERABAD: The Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) caught Keesara police station sub-inspector Dyapa Gnanender Reddy while allegedly accepting a ₹5 lakh bribe on September 16, according to an ACB press note issued on September 17.
The ACB said the action followed instructions from Keesara police station inspector and station house officer (SHO) Arkapally Anjaneyulu. The SI allegedly demanded the money from a complainant in return for granting station bail and not harassing the complainant and his friend in a case registered at Keesara police station.
The ACB’s City Range-1 unit caught Reddy at 23.25 IST on September 16 while he was accepting the money, the agency said. The tainted cash was recovered from his possession at his instance.
The ACB alleged that both officers improperly and dishonestly performed their duties to obtain an undue advantage. It said Anjaneyulu and Reddy were being produced before the Principal Special Judge for SPE and ACB cases at Nampally for judicial remand.
The case is under investigation. The ACB has withheld the complainant’s details for security reasons.
The agency urged people to report demands for bribes by public servants on its toll-free number 1064. It also said complaints can be made through its WhatsApp number 9440446106 and social media platforms.
