Keesara jeweller injured as robbers threaten with fake gun

KEESARA: Two men allegedly attempted to rob a jewellery shop by threatening the owner with a fake gun and later attacked him with an axe when he resisted, police said.
The incident occurred on Friday evening in Nagaram under the limits of Keesara police station. According to Circle Inspector Anjaneyulu, the suspects entered Balaji Jewellers in Satyanarayana Colony around 5 pm after noticing that the owner was alone.
They first asked the shop owner, Sandeep, to show gold ornaments kept on a tray. As he was displaying them, one of the men threatened him with what appeared to be a firearm and tried to snatch gold jewellery kept in two bags.
Sandeep resisted and raised an alarm. The suspects then attacked him with a small axe, injuring him on the head. Despite the assault, the jeweller continued to resist. On noticing local residents rushing towards the shop, the suspects fled after abandoning the fake gun and making away with ornaments from the tray.
Sandeep was later taken to hospital, where doctors administered 18 stitches to his head.
