K. Chandrashekhar Rao seeks SIT date change

HYDERABAD: Bharat Rashtra Samithi president and Leader of Opposition K. Chandrashekhar Rao has written to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) stating that he will not be able to appear for questioning on January 30 in connection with the phone tapping case.
In a written reply to the notice issued by the SIT, Rao said the process of filing nominations for municipal elections was underway and January 30 was the last date for nominations to 116 municipalities and seven municipal corporations. He said he was preoccupied with issuing authorisations as the elections were being held on a party basis.
Invokes CrPC Section 160
Rao requested the investigating officer to fix another convenient date for his examination under Section 160 of the Criminal Procedure Code. He also sought more time and asked that the examination be postponed until the election process was completed.
Quoting Section 160 of the CrPC, Rao said men above the age of 65 were not required to appear at a police station and could be examined at their place of residence.
Seeks examination at Erravalli residence
The former chief minister said he was residing at Erravalli village in Markook mandal of Siddipet district and requested the SIT to conduct the examination at his residence with prior notice. He also asked that all future notices be sent to the same address.
Rao said he would fully cooperate with the investigation, adding that as a former chief minister and a responsible citizen, he was committed to assisting the probe.
The SIT had issued the notice in connection with Crime No. 243/2024 related to the phone tapping case. Rao’s response has triggered renewed political debate in the state, with attention now focused on the SIT’s next course of action.
