KCR should explain Telangana debt: Bhatti
HYDERABAD: Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka on Friday alleged that the previous Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) government pushed the state into a debt trap through indiscriminate borrowings. He said the Congress government had borrowed only ₹1.77 lakh crore, while the previous government’s total liabilities stood at ₹8,21,651 crore.
Bhatti said the figure included borrowings raised within the Fiscal Responsibility and Budget Management (FRBM) limits between 2014 and 2023, government-guaranteed loans taken in the name of corporations, pending employee bills and dues of power distribution companies (DISCOMs).
He accused BRS leaders K. T. Rama Rao and T. Harish Rao of spreading misinformation on the state’s debt burden.

“If the facts are one way, why are they challenging the Chief Minister and ministers to a debate while spreading falsehoods? No economy can be built on lies. K. Chandrashekar Rao, who governed the state for 10 years, should explain these borrowings and the alleged loot. He should come to the Legislative Assembly for a discussion,” Bhatti said.
He added that the Congress government was functioning transparently and said he had not remained absent from the Assembly for even a single day while serving as Leader of the Opposition.
Bhatti was addressing a press conference at the Secretariat along with ministers Ponnam Prabhakar and Adluri Laxman Kumar.
Government released white paper on state’s finances
The Deputy Chief Minister said the Congress government was working to restore normalcy in the state’s administration and had exercised restraint while focusing on governance and protecting Telangana’s reputation.
He alleged that opposition parties had been carrying out a sustained misinformation campaign on social media and said the government would not remain silent.
“Our government released a white paper on the state’s debt in the Legislative Assembly soon after assuming office,” he said.
