Flyover and underpass construction planned around KBR Park in Hyderabad

HYDERABAD: Construction of flyovers and underpasses around KBR Park is expected to begin next month as soil testing reaches the final stage, officials said.

Signal-free corridor planned to ease congestion

The project, being implemented by the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) as part of the Hyderabad City Infrastructure programme, aims to ease chronic traffic congestion in the area. Authorities are simultaneously expediting the process of compensating property owners affected by the works through Transferable Development Rights (TDR).

Daily traffic snarls are reported on Banjara Hills Road No. 10, Road No. 12, Jubilee Hills Check Post and routes towards Masab Tank, particularly during office hours and evenings. Officials said delays could worsen in the future without major infrastructure upgrades.

₹1,090 crore project gets clearance

The state government has cleared a ₹1,090 crore project to construct six flyovers and six underpasses, creating a signal-free corridor. The plan is expected to significantly cut travel time for motorists.

Although the project was finalised about a year ago, work was delayed due to hurdles in land acquisition. These issues have now been resolved, officials said.

Compensation via cash or TDR

Both individuals and commercial establishments are losing portions of their properties for the project. Officials said affected owners are being offered either cash compensation at twice the prevailing market rate or TDR worth four times the market rate. This approach has eased the acquisition process.

With agreements in place, soil testing is currently under way around KBR Park to assess underground conditions and groundwater levels. The findings will determine flyover designs, pillar heights and construction methods.

Officials said soil testing is expected to be completed within two days, paving the way for construction to start next month.

Given that KBR Park falls under an eco-sensitive zone, authorities said environmental norms will be strictly followed. Measures include minimising tree felling, controlling noise pollution and ensuring minimal disturbance to wildlife, while also avoiding inconvenience to motorists during construction.
