KBR Park panel inspects flyover project before Supreme Court hearing
HYDERABAD: A Central team on Friday inspected the proposed flyovers and underpasses around Kasu Brahmananda Reddy (KBR) National Park in Banjara Hills ahead of the Supreme Court hearing scheduled for July 27. The team held discussions with officials from the Forest Department and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and later inspected the park’s surroundings.
Team reviews tree removal and development works
The inspection focused on road widening, the proposed removal of trees and works planned within the eco-sensitive zone around the national park. The Supreme Court had earlier stayed tree felling within a 25-metre eco-sensitive zone after environmental activists challenged the project, arguing that it could affect the park’s ecological balance.
Findings to form part of Supreme Court submissions
The Central team examined the number of trees located within 25-30 metres of the eco-sensitive zone and whether any had already been felled. Central Empowered Committee member Anjan Mohanty and another official from Delhi met GHMC Commissioner Karnan, Forest Department official Priyanka Varghese, Khairatabad Zone Chief Engineer Ratnakar, Executive Engineer Sampada, Deputy Executive Engineer Harish and Assistant Engineer Prashanth.
The observations made during the inspection and discussions will be compiled into a report, which will form part of the submissions before the Supreme Court during the next hearing on July 27.
