KAZIPET: Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw said the rail coach manufacturing unit at Kazipet is nearing completion and will soon begin production of intercity trains.

Unit to produce 200 trains in five years

Reviewing progress at the Kazipet railway manufacturing unit, the minister said the facility would manufacture 200 intercity trains over the next five years. He said the trains would be used for short-distance travel services across the country.

Trains to feature automatic doors and regenerative braking

“The new intercity trains will come with automatic door-closing systems and improved ventilation. Each train will have 20 coaches with safer coach designs and modern passenger facilities,” Ashwini Vaishnaw said.

He said the trains would be designed to run at a speed of 130 kmph. The minister added that the trains would also feature regenerative braking technology, under which braking energy is converted into electricity and fed back into the power grid.
