Kavitha questions encroachments on Serilingampally lakes

HYDERABAD: Jagriti president Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Thursday asked who was responsible for the encroachment of lakes in the Serilingampally area. She raised the issue while speaking after offering floral tributes to the Gandhi statue at KPHB Road No.1 before leaving for a tour of Rangareddy district.
Jagriti activities to start in Serilingampally
Kavitha said Jagriti would begin its programmes from the Serilingampally constituency. She noted that the constituency, with several low-income neighbourhoods and many poor families, continued to face multiple civic problems.
She said that in 2014 the area had 64 lakes, many of which were later encroached. She urged people to reflect on who was responsible for the loss of these water bodies. Telangana’s assets inherited through history had been depleted, she said, while basic facilities for the poor had not improved.
Focus on civic issues, traffic and public services
Kavitha said she visited the area to understand traffic issues and other civic concerns affecting residents.
‘Say No to Drugs’ event held
Later, she attended a ‘Say No to Drugs’ programme. Jagriti, she said, would work to protect young people from addiction to narcotic substances. She administered a pledge to students and encouraged them to stay away from drugs.
