Kavitha to launch ‘Telangana Praja Jagruthi’ party on April 25

HYDERABAD: Kalvakuntla Kavitha has announced that she will launch her political party, Telangana Praja Jagruthi, on April 25, 2026, marking a new political move in Telangana.
In a post on X on the occasion of Sri Rama Navami on March 27, Kavitha said, “The time has come. On April 25, 2026, a new political era begins in Telangana. This isn’t just a party; it’s your movement. Join us in shaping the future of our state.”
The launch will take place at Advaya Convention, ORR Exit No. 6, Munirabad, Medchal, at 08.00 IST.
Court asks ECI to process party registration application
On March 19, the Delhi High Court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to consider Kavitha’s plea seeking registration of the party.
In her petition, she sought directions to the ECI to process her January 23 application under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951, within a time-bound framework.
Split from BRS and fallout over project allegations
Kavitha was suspended from the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) in September 2025. The party was founded by her father, former Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao.
The suspension followed her allegations that party leaders T Harish Rao and J Santosh Kumar had “tarnished” her father’s image over the Kaleshwaram lift irrigation project.
She later resigned from the BRS and from her post as a member of the legislative council, and announced plans to contest the next assembly elections under her own political platform.
Protests over demolitions and housing issues
Since then, Kavitha has been active on public issues, including protests against demolition of houses in Velugumatla in Khammam district. More than 700 huts on Bhudaan land were demolished by the district administration on February 24.
She staged a dharna in Khammam on March 9, demanding housing for affected families. The protest turned violent when police attempted to disperse demonstrators. A woman constable fainted during the incident and was later hospitalised.
Following the protests, Deputy Chief Minister Bhatti Vikramarka, along with ministers Ponguleti Srinivasa Reddy and Tummala Nageswara Rao, distributed house site pattas to 311 beneficiaries and sanction letters to 101 others under the Indiramma Illu scheme on March 11.
A week earlier, Kavitha and her supporters protested near high-rise constructions in Narsingi, questioning selective eviction drives along the Musi riverbanks while large real estate projects continued.
