Kavitha promises one acre to every poor family under ‘Bhu Lakshmi’

HYDERABAD: Telangana Rakshana Sena chief Kalvakuntla Kavitha on Tuesday announced the ‘Bhu Lakshmi’ scheme, promising one acre of land to every poor family in the state if her party comes to power.
Addressing a press conference at the Telangana Rakshana Sena office in Banjara Hills, Kavitha said land redistribution was necessary to achieve social justice in Telangana.
She said social justice should translate into tangible and lasting change rather than remain a slogan. She appealed to intellectuals across the state to consider her vision and join the party’s efforts.
Kavitha said the party would build public pressure through meetings, protests and agitations while also implementing programmes aimed at realising its land redistribution plan.
Kavitha says land ownership key to dignity for poor
Kavitha said a just Telangana was possible only through land distribution and that families could live with dignity when they owned land.
She said land had a special significance for poor families, Backward Classes (BCs), Scheduled Castes (SCs), Scheduled Tribes (STs) and Adivasis. For these communities, she said, land represented an emotional bond and was closely linked to their lives.
Kavitha said she arrived at the decision after studying land records. She claimed the state government had 60 lakh acres of land, including land originally granted under the Nizam and land distributed through the Bhoodan movement.
She said the location of one lakh acres of Bhoodan land was still unknown. She reiterated that her party would distribute one acre to every poor family after forming the government.
Kavitha accuses Revanth government of taking poor’s land
Kavitha launched a sharp attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s government, describing it as a “Rakshasa Rajyam” and accusing the chief minister’s family of grabbing land across Telangana.
She alleged that instead of distributing land to the poor, the government was taking land from them in the name of industrial development. She claimed 30,000 acres had been taken from poor families since Revanth Reddy became chief minister.
Kavitha said her party would oppose any further seizure of land belonging to the poor. She also criticised the use of Section 22A, alleging that it had created scope for land exploitation.
She compared the situation with the earlier Dharani portal, alleging that the Bhu Bharathi system was now being misused in a similar manner.
Kavitha described Revanth Reddy as a “wolf in sheep’s clothing”, alleging that he spoke about social justice but followed “jungle law” in practice. She said he began speaking about social justice only after the Social Resolve Meeting held earlier this month.
Kavitha questioned the government’s commitment to social justice, pointing out that only three of the 16 cabinet ministers were from the BC community.
She also cited budget figures, saying the state had presented a combined budget of ₹5.96 lakh crore over the past two years but spent only ₹5,500 crore on BC welfare.
Kavitha said the chief minister had the authority to ensure justice for BC, SC, ST and minority communities in both the government and the Congress party. Instead, she alleged, his actions had been contrary to that objective.
She said the public would not trust the chief minister’s statements on social justice because of his record. Kavitha reaffirmed that the Telangana Rakshana Sena would continue its fight for social justice and oppose what it considers injustice against poor families over land.
