Hyderabad: 1,400 kg adulterated ginger garlic paste seized in Katedan raids
Hyderabad: In a surprise inspection on November 19, 2024, the Telangana State Commissioner of Food Safety’s Task Force conducted raids at two food manufacturing units in the Katedan area, Hyderabad.
At SKR Food Products, officials seized 1,000 kg of ginger garlic paste on suspicion of adulteration and substandard quality. Samples of the paste were sent to the laboratory for further analysis. The premises, however, revealed serious concerns. Loose plastering flakes and particles were observed falling from the roof above the grinding and packing areas. The factory was found to be exposed to the outside environment with no insect-proof screens.
Further inspections revealed that medical fitness certificates for food handlers, pest control records, and water analysis reports were absent. Water stagnation was found in several areas, and the premises were described as highly unhygienic, with issues of cleanliness throughout the manufacturing space.
Task force team has conducted inspections in Katedan area on 19.11.2024.

In a separate raid at Umani Foods International, inspectors discovered 50 kg of synthetic food colour (Tatrazine) in the storeroom, suspected to be used in the production of ginger garlic paste. A total of 400 kg of packed ginger garlic paste was seized, with samples sent for testing.
The premises were also found to be lacking a name board and address details, a violation of food safety regulations. Additionally, the Food Business Operator (FBO) initially obstructed the entry of food safety officials.
Other violations at Umani Foods included water stagnation near the cleaning and grinding areas, cobwebs on the walls and ceilings, and food handlers working without hair caps, gloves, or aprons. Umani Foods failed to provide pest control records, medical fitness certificates for food handlers, and water analysis reports for water used in manufacturing.
The Food Safety Task Force has seized the adulterated products and sent samples for laboratory analysis.
