Karwan Road potholes, waterlogging put commuters at risk in Hyderabad

Karwan Road Potholes

HYDERABAD: Karwan Road in Puranapool has been riddled with potholes. Further in the last 10 to 20 days severe water stagnation has worsened the situation, making the stretch hazardous for commuters and prompting residents to demand urgent intervention from Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC).

Malik Zaid Ali Khan, who lives in King’s Colony in Shastripuram, saw a big pothole next to an uncovered manhole while passing by the area. This is very dangerous for drivers.  Speaking to HyderabadMail, he said “In fact, as I stopped to take a photo to post on social media, a car fell into the pothole and was badly damaged. This happened while I was trying to show how bad the road was”. Furthermore, the spot in Kagaz Guda on Karwan Road, is a serious danger for people who travel there every day. Water stagnation has made it even riskier because drivers can hardly see the potholes.

Residents are very worried because the road has been neglected for weeks. Moreover, the uncovered manhole and large pothole are dangerous for cars and people walking. Recent rain has made things worse by causing more water to collect and damaging the road further.

Local residents have asked the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation(GHMC) and other officials to act quickly. Specifically, they want the road repaired, manhole covers installed, and drainage problems fixed to stop water from collecting.

Khan, who saw the car fall into the pothole, asked officials to act before more accidents or injuries happen. In addition, residents want the city to inspect the road and make permanent repairs, like resurfacing the road, installing covers on manholes, and improving the drainage system. This will help prevent these problems in the future.
