Karimnagar police book 161 in sand mining cases

KARIMNAGAR: Police in Karimnagar registered over 100 cases against illegal sand mining in March, seizing more than 100 vehicles and booking 161 accused.

Over 100 cases filed, vehicles seized across district

Commissioner of Police Ghouse Alam said a total of 120 First Information Reports (FIRs) were registered. Police seized 139 lorries involved in illegal transport of sand.

Locals allege attacks by sand mafia near projects

Residents alleged that groups involved in illegal sand mining are operating like a mafia, extracting sand near project areas and earning large sums. They said those who object or file complaints face attacks and intimidation.

The Commissioner said illegal sand mining would not be tolerated under any circumstances. “Strict action will be taken against those involved,” he added.
