TELANGANA: Acting on credible information, officials of the Drugs Control Administration (DCA) on December 27, 2025 raided the premises of an unqualified practitioner who was allegedly running a clinic without proper medical qualifications in Vidya Nagar here.

Raid at Vidya Nagar clinic

The raid was conducted at Laxmi First Aid Centre, where K. Laxminarayana was found carrying out clinical practice without the required credentials. Officials detected 39 varieties of medicines stocked at the premises without a valid drug licence.

These included 35 varieties of physician’s samples, such as antibiotics, analgesics and anti-ulcer drugs. The seized stock was valued at ₹15,011.

Antibiotics seized, samples sent for analysis

Among the medicines recovered were antibiotics such as Cefixime, Ofloxacin, Cloxacillin, Amoxycillin and Azithromycin. Officials warned that indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by unqualified persons could endanger public health and contribute to antimicrobial resistance.

Drugs Inspector S. Umarani of Karimnagar and Drugs Inspector P. Shravan Kumar of Peddapally carried out the raid. Samples were lifted for analysis, and officials said further investigation was under way. Action would be taken against all offenders as per law.

Advisory to wholesalers and dealers

The DCA issued an advisory warning wholesalers and dealers against supplying medicines to quacks, unqualified persons or unlicensed shops. Such violations would invite penal action under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act, 1940.

Wholesalers and dealers have been directed to supply medicines only to entities holding a valid drug licence issued by the competent licensing authority and to maintain records verifying the licences of recipient establishments. Stocking drugs for sale without a licence is punishable with imprisonment of up to five years.

The public has been urged to report complaints related to illegal drug activities, including suspected manufacture of narcotic and psychotropic substances, to the DCA toll-free number 1800-599-6969, operational from 10.30 am to 5 pm on working days.
