Telangana constable’s organs save three lives under Jeevandan programme

HYDERABAD: Family members of a 31-year-old police constable, Kambala Shankar, donated his organs after doctors declared him brain dead. The donation helped save three patients under the State-run Jeevandan programme.
Shankar, a resident of Thukkapuram in Bhongir, served as an Armed Reserve (AR) constable at the Police Headquarters in Amberpet.
Accident in Bhongir leaves constable critically injured
Shankar fell from his two-wheeler in Bhongir on March 28. He first received treatment at the Government Area Hospital in Bhongir. Doctors later shifted him to a private hospital in Hyderabad for advanced care.
However, his condition did not improve. Doctors declared him brain dead on March 31.
Family decision saves three lives
After consulting doctors, his father, Kambala Srisailam, agreed to donate his organs. Doctors retrieved two kidneys and a liver and transplanted them into three patients.
A press release said the Jeevandan programme reached a key milestone this year. Telangana recorded 49 brain-dead donations earlier in 2026. Shankar’s case marked the 50th donation.
