Kamareddy Student Climbs Tank After Being Scolded for Phone Use

HYDERABAD: An intermediate student climbed a 60-ft water tank in Burgul village of Kamareddy district on Friday after being scolded by her parents over excessive mobile phone use, triggering a tense 9.5-hour rescue operation.
The girl threatened to jump, prompting local authorities to rush to the spot. Police and revenue officials cordoned off the area and initiated efforts to persuade her to come down.
Officials attempt negotiation as tension grips village
For several hours, officials attempted to counsel the student from the ground. Villagers gathered in large numbers as rescue teams maintained vigil to prevent any mishap.
Despite repeated appeals, the student refused to descend, prolonging the standoff.
Sub-collector climbs tank, persuades student to descend
Banswada Sub-Collector Kiranmayi later climbed the water tank and personally counselled the girl. After sustained efforts, she convinced the student to come down safely, bringing the situation under control.
No injuries were reported. Authorities said the student would be provided counselling support.
