Kalvakuntla Kavitha outside Delhi High Court during party registration case

TELANGANA: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha secured relief in the Delhi High Court on Thursday, March 19. The court directed the Election Commission of India (ECI) to take an early decision on the proposed registration of her new political outfit, Telangana Praja Jagruthi.

The matter came up for hearing on the party name. Kavitha’s counsel informed the court that technical issues in the application had been rectified and a fresh submission had been sent to the poll panel. The ECI’s counsel said the commission would take a decision on the application at the earliest.

Application filed under Representation of the People Act provisions

Kavitha had applied to the ECI on January 23 for registration of her new party under Section 29A of the Representation of the People Act, 1951. She also moved the Delhi High Court seeking directions to expedite the registration process.

The poll panel earlier stated that the application contained several deficiencies.

Fresh hearing follows earlier adjournment over procedural issues

Following the objections, Kavitha approached the court. During a hearing on February 27, the ECI’s counsel said the applicant had already been informed about the shortcomings. Kavitha’s counsel did not appear that day, leading to an adjournment to March 19.

The petition was heard again on Thursday.
