Telangana Kavitha Slams Congress Over Delay In Nalgonda Projects

HYDERABAD: Telangana Jagruthi president Kalvakuntla Kavitha criticised the Congress government for failing to complete key irrigation and welfare projects in Nalgonda district. Speaking at a press conference during the Jagruthi Janam Bata programme, she said that despite promises, the State had shown little progress on the SLBC, Dindi and Nakkalagandi projects.

Questions state delays on Krishna and local projects

Kavitha said that even after 12 years of BRS and Congress rule, many mandals in the district are still deprived of Krishna river water. “The Nagarjuna Sagar dam is right here, yet five surrounding mandals remain dry,” she said. She warned that if Chief Minister Revanth Reddy continued to neglect the issue, displaced families would stage a protest in front of his residence.

Questioning the government’s inaction in the Sunkishala retaining wall collapse, Kavitha alleged that no steps were taken against the contractor despite the inquiry panel’s recommendation to blocklist the firm. She said ministers Uttam Kumar Reddy and Komatireddy Venkata Reddy had remained silent on the issue.

Demands action on contractor probe and farm, hospital issues

Kavitha also criticised the poor state of welfare schools and hospitals in the district. At the Devarakonda welfare school, she said students study in cramped conditions due to encroachment of allotted land. She added that government hospitals lack basic facilities, forcing two patients to share a bed, and urged Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha to ensure better resources and epidural facilities for women in labour.

On farm issues, Kavitha said Nalgonda’s estimated paddy output this season is 13.44 lakh metric tonnes, but the government opened only 375 of the 1,000 required procurement centres. “She said that they have not procured even one lakh tonnes so far, alleging that they are delaying to avoid paying bonus to farmers”.

Calling for a “social Telangana,” Kavitha said empowerment must reach women, marginalized groups and backward classes. “Whether it is BRS or Congress, mistakes must be corrected. People elected you to solve problems, not repeat them,” she said.
