Kaleshwaram project repairs: TG CM A Revanth Reddy orders immediate restoration

HYDERABAD: In a decisive move to restore the Kaleshwaram irrigation project, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy directed officials to repair the three barrages of the project and bring them back into operation as soon as possible, on Thursday.
During a high-level review meeting, at his Jubilee Hills residence with Irrigation Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy, the Chief Minister stressed that officials must strictly follow National Dam Safety Authority (NDSA) recommendations for all repairs. He urged officials to expedite the work and warned that he would not accept delays.
Expanding on these directives, the Chief Minister instructed officials to develop a detailed action plan for the repairs and monitor progress continuously. He directed all agencies involved to expedite execution. Looking at technical requirements, Revanth Reddy directed CWPRS to complete all tests and sample collection before the monsoon. He proposed forming a dedicated team with representatives from the Irrigation Department, CWPRS, barrage construction agencies, and design consultants, and instructed officials to involve Central Water Commission (CWC) members at every stage.
Engineers recommended a comprehensive study of the entire 1.6-kilometer Medigadda barrage instead of focusing only on the subsided pier. The Chief Minister accepted the recommendation and directed officials to proceed. The Chief Minister also ordered officials to drill 500 borewells near Medigadda and requested a specific action plan for this task. He instructed them to secure the required machinery and complete the work promptly.
Addressing project planning, Revanth Reddy requested designs for the necessary repairs and a detailed schedule to complete all tasks by December. He also suggested that officials establish a base camp at Medigadda to support efficient execution. The Chief Minister assured full administrative support and confirmed that the project would face no financial constraints. He added that he would personally visit the site to review progress once work begins.
Telangana Chief Secretary K Ramakrishna Rao, Secretary of Irrigation and CAD E Sridhar, Secretary to the CM K Manicka Raj, and other senior officials from the Irrigation Department attended the meeting.
