Hanamkonda pilgrim drowns during holy dip at Kaleshwaram temple

HYDERABAD: A pilgrim drowned while taking a holy dip in the Godavari River at the Kaleshwaram shrine in Mahadevpur mandal of Jayashankar Bhupalpally district on Sunday.

Pilgrim slips into deep waters before temple visit

Police identified the deceased as Bobbala Srinivasa Reddy, a resident of Prashanth Nagar in Hanamkonda district. He had visited the Sri Kaleshwara Mukteswara Swamy temple along with his wife, Sugdha, to offer prayers.

Before entering the temple, the couple took a ritual bath in the Godavari River. During the holy dip, Srinivasa Reddy allegedly slipped into deeper waters and was swept away by the strong current.

Rescue attempt fails despite efforts by devotees

Local residents and fellow devotees rushed to his rescue after hearing cries for help. However, he had drowned by the time they managed to retrieve him from the river.

Based on a complaint lodged by his wife, police registered a case and launched an investigation into the circumstances leading to the incident.
