Kaleshwaram barrage safety tests near completion
HYDERABAD: Technical tests being conducted to assess the safety and construction quality of the Medigadda, Annaram and Sundilla barrages of the Kaleshwaram project are nearing completion.
All tests related to concrete quality have been completed, while ultrasonic tests at the Medigadda and Annaram barrages are in the final stage.
Key structural and flood-resistance tests are complete
Key tests to assess the strength and stability of the barrages and their ability to withstand flood flows have also been completed.
A team of officials will visit the Central Water and Power Research Station (CWPRS) in Pune on July 16 and 17 to examine the test reports.
Medigadda may require additional secant piles
Meanwhile, the design organisation is learnt to have preliminarily found that the secant piles at the Medigadda barrage do not extend to the required depth.
It is also learnt to have recommended in its report that additional secant piles be installed to strengthen the safety of the barrage.
The government will, however, decide on repairs, reconstruction or other measures at the barrages only after receiving the final test results and expert reports.
Officials expect clarity soon on the future of the Kaleshwaram barrages.
