Kakatiya University hostel clash injures six in Warangal

WARANGAL: Kakatiya University witnessed clashes between Economics and Master of Business Administration students at the New PG Hostel over distribution of leftover chicken on Sunday night, February 23. Several students were injured, and police set up picketing on campus on Monday.
Dispute over leftover food sparks hostel clash
According to police, after dinner was served on Sunday night, leftover chicken remained at the hostel. Rajanikant, an Economics student, attempted to take the remaining food. Master of Business Administration first-year students objected, leading to an argument.
Police said Rajanikant allegedly assaulted one student. In response, Master of Business Administration students attacked Rajanikant and his roommate. The clash escalated as students from both departments formed groups and used sticks and iron rods against each other.
ABVP backs student; senior groups join fray
Police reached the campus and brought the situation under control. Rajanikant was taken into custody and shifted to the university police station. He was later released the same night and returned to the campus.
Following this, activists of the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad entered the campus in support of Rajanikant and allegedly attacked Master of Business Administration first-year students. Senior students also joined in support of juniors.
In the violence, window panes of several hostel rooms were damaged. Master of Business Administration students Bap Singh, Manikumar, Sachin, Akhil, Srinath and Yashwant sustained injuries. Police shifted them to hospital for treatment.
With tension prevailing on campus, Sub-Inspector Kalyan Kumar led police picketing on Monday.
University orders action against those involved
In view of the incident, university authorities held an emergency meeting on Monday afternoon. Department heads, hostel directors and Registrar Valluri Ramachandram briefed Vice-Chancellor Pratap Reddy on the situation.
Officials said they would not tolerate any act that disturbs the peaceful atmosphere of the campus. While police have registered cases against several students, the university will initiate disciplinary action under its rules.
